Alien Technology’s new ALR-9800 Enterprise RFID Reader is a new high-performance multi-protocol reader designed from the ground up for EPC Class I Gen 2 compatibility and cost-effective enterprise deployment. Delivering exceptional RFID read capability, the ALR-9800 enables enterprise-wide scaling of RFID by reducing the costs of implementation, simplifying on-going reader management and integration with enterprise networks, and permitting large numbers of readers to operate harmoniously in close proximity.

In separate announcements, Alien Technology announced strategic alliances with Microsoft, IBM and Oracle.

The ALR-9800 is compatible with the Microsoft RFID Infrastructure and will be supported by Microsoft Corp.'s RFID technology. The Microsoft RFID Infrastructure is designed to enable cost-effective deployment of RFID capabilities and simplified management of RFID data across the enterprise, including the seamless integration of RFID data with enterprise business applications and real-time processes. The RFID Infrastructure based upon the Microsoft .NET Framework will include an advanced device management layer and a robust event management layer that can be used by third-party applications.

Alien Technology and IBM have integrated IBM's WebSphere RFID Device Infrastructure (WRDI) middleware on the newly announced Alien ALR-9800 RFID Reader. Alien announced it is offering customers a specific version of the ALR-9800 incorporating IBM's WRDI middleware, which enables the seamless integration of RFID data with IBM platform-based systems and enterprise business processes.

The ALR-9800 with embedded WRDI client software on the reader integrates with IBM WebSphere RFID Premises Server offering customers the ability to interpret and correlate high volumes of RFID data gathered from the ALR-9800 to gain instant visibility of RFID tagged pallets and products to improve operational efficiency. This information can be integrated with the enterprise and shared with the worldwide supply chain to deliver business insight within a retail or consumer driven supply chain enterprise.

Alien Technology also announced an alliance with Oracle, establishing Alien as a partner in Oracle's Sensor-Based Services initiatives, including support for integration of Alien's new ALR-9800 Enterprise RFID Reader with the Oracle Sensor Edge Server, including Oracle Warehouse Management, Oracle EPC Compliance Enabler and other RFID-enabled solutions. Alien is a Certified Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork.

The ALR-9800 Enterprise Reader is available to order now for shipments in September. The list price is $2399.
