DoD looking to high-tech to fight the war
Aug 1, 2002
By Roger Lesser Editor rlesser@primediabusiness.com I fear many of us are ignoring the fact we are fighting a war. I can assure you it is not being ignored in the halls of the Pentagon. I've had a number of discussions with individuals in the Pentagon that provide support for the war on terrorism. It may take years, but I believe the combination of the strength of our military resolve, coupled with the right high-tech assets to wage this war, will result in a safer world....

RFID It's all about security
Aug 1, 2002
By Jon Karlen Low-cost radio frequency identification tokens are gaining widespread adoption for use in innovative and cost-effective applications. To date, the security on these applications has been limited to simple PIN-based and symmetric key-based systems. The well-known security vulnerabilities of these systems have restricted these applications to small-scale, closed systems. Unfortunately, the cost parameters haven't changed. To compete, RFID manufacturers will need to find new security solutions....

The effects of clock jitter on data conversion devices
Aug 1, 2002
By Bar-Giora Goldberg Data conversion devices are now common, and will become even more so as new applications arise. For such processing, ultra-high dynamic range, multibits and high-speed A/D (and D/A) converters are necessary. In such high-quality devices, one must be extra careful when choosing the clocking source....

Balanced error correction for power amplifiers
Jul 1, 2002
By Warren Guthrie Modern digital communication systems provide improved spectral efficiency, clarity, and fade resistance when compared to analog FM systems. Spectral efficiency is a key factor because higher efficiency means more radio channels can occupy a given bandwidth. As such, code-division multiple access (CDMA) systems have been designed for maximum spectral efficiency in two ways....
