StratEdge, a producer of semiconductor packages for microwave, millimeter-wave, and high-speed digital devices, has installed a closed-loop water purification system for its manufacturing operation. With the new closed-loop water purification system, zero waste is discharged into the city water system, and the need to purchase and store de-ionized (DI) water is practically eliminated, said the manufacturer. The result is a lower cost, added StratEdge.

The StratEdge system recycles the DI water used in StratEdge's plating processes and regenerates it. The water is run through an ion exchange resin, which captures organic and inorganic impurities and regenerates the water to a high purity condition. Because it is a closed-loop system there is a reduced amount of waste and contaminated water to discard, and no water is discharged to the city water treatment system. The only DI water required by the system is that needed to replenish water lost due to evaporation.

“It took us about six months to optimize this recycling system,” said Napoleon Fulinara, StratEdge product engineer. Not only do we feel good about our contribution to keeping the environment and our water clean, but we've also reduced our costs and come up with a system that is easy to maintain.”
