Asia semiconductor consumption to top $200 billion by 2010 May 1, 2006 12:00 PM
Annual semiconductor consumption in the Asian market will jump from $136.5 billion in 2005 to $203 billion in 2010, predicts In-Stat in its report, “Semiconductor Consumption by Major Applications in Asia: Focus on China and India” (#IN0602727ASM). After the 2001 downturn, most of the electronic manufacturing from the United States and Europe shifted to low-cost regions in Asia, resulting in Asia being the largest manufacturing base for electronics today, according to the market research firm. “The computing segment is the largest application segment for semiconductor consumption in Asia, while the communications and consumer applications are the fastest-growing segments for the Asian semiconductor market,” said Prakash Vaswani, In-Stat analyst. “Increasing demand for mobile phones, telecom infrastructures, digital TVs, DVD players and digital audio will fuel the market.” In-Stat research found the following:
The research covers demand for semiconductors in Asia, with a section covering the semiconductor consumption market of different countries in Asia, including Japan. The main focus is on China and India, two of the fastest-growing economies in Asia. The research includes semiconductor consumption forecasts by industry through 2010. This research is part of In-Stat's Asia Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing Service, which tracks the semiconductor consumption by application and by country. This service forecasts application segments in crucial Asian markets, which include China, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Semiconductor manufacturing is also addressed by country, and an additional step in identifying the largest markets for semiconductor consumption is presented with a look at CEM and assembly capacity by country.
