EDGE wireless solutions offer pervasive connectivity Mar 1, 2005 12:00 PM
Implementing MC75 quadband EDGE module from Siemens, AirLink Communications Inc., a provider of fixed and mobile wireless data solutions, unveiled its first wireless data solutions for EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) networks at CTIA Wireless 2005 in New Orleans. According to AirLink, the new mobile wireless platforms will be compatible with all existing GSM/GPRS frequencies worldwide. Initial product releases are scheduled for mid-2005. AirLink's quad-band EDGE products will enable enterprise and industrial customers to ubiquitously monitor and control fixed and mobile assets in real time. The products will include a variety of connectivity options for maximum flexibility and functionality.” We are proud to be working closely with an internationally recognized leader like Siemens on this new offering. Siemens' product excellence combined with AirLink's unmatched industry experience and proven leadership, allows us to get to market quickly with the most complete and highest-value EDGE products possible,” remarked Justin Schmid, AirLink's senior vice president of corporate and business development. EDGE is a high-speed wireless technology that offers enhanced data speeds to mobile devices with complete interoperability and backwards compatibility to existing GSM/GPRS networks. With download speeds of 10 Kbs to 130 Kbs and burst speeds up to 200 Kbps, EDGE technology is three times faster than GPRS and nearly twice the speed of CDMA 1x networks.
