The MachineTalker iRFID to undergo HERO testing
Aug 1, 2006 12:00 PM

MachineTalker has shipped its Intelligent RFID units for submission to the HERO certification process. When qualified, the company's iRFID product can be used for security and monitoring of explosive devices, particularly military ordnance.

A key feature of MachineTalker's design is to share information with adjacent Talkers by radio, where each can process data from its own sensors and correlate results with information from other Talkers in the area. The iRFID version of a MachineTalker is meant to be used to monitor the status and environment of cargo, including shipments of explosive materials. In order to qualify for this purpose, the device must be HERO certified.

HERO (hazard of electromagnetic radiation to ordnance) is a complex assessment process that seeks to assure that any product that transmits radio-frequency electromagnetic energy is not capable of accidental actuation of electro-explosive devices.

According to company president Roland F. Bryan, “Our wireless security products are meant to be used in unattended remote applications where intelligence is needed to monitor the environment for harmful changes, to log events in real-time, make decisions and report details about the items being monitored.
