New 802.11g Capabilities for Signal Studio

Agilent Technologies Inc., introduced software to support of 802.11g WLANs. The 802.11g WLAN Signal Studio software for the E4438C ESG vector signal generator provides a quick and easy way to create test signals for 802.11g component or receiver tests, the company says. For component testing, the software enables users to determine the performance characteristics of 802.11g WLAN components and to modify signal parameters to meet customized test needs. In addition, the software can generate statistically correct signals to properly stress components. For receiver testing, the software creates fully coded 802.11g WLAN frames, which enables FER, PER and BER receiver sensitivity testing, and allows demodulation capability of 802.11g WLAN receivers to be verified.

SystemView Connectivity for Tektronix Oscilloscopes

Elanix Inc. announced the integration of Tektronix TekVISA interface with its SystemView environment, giving test engineers the ability to design, develop and verify design models within one environment. Test engineers and design engineers are given the same platform to aid in all stages of the design cycle. Test engineers can easily compare lab results to the design engineers' intended design. SystemView with Tektronix give both engineers a simple graphical interface to represent data from either the simulation or the oscilloscope. By combining the capability of open Windows oscilloscopes with the power of SystemView, design engineers now have more time to focus on the design process. The following series of Tektronix oscilloscopes are supported: TDS5000, TDS6000, TDS/CSA7000 and TDS/CSA8000B. The oscilloscope can remain in the lab allowing the design engineer access to the oscilloscope data anywhere on the network.

EM-based tool for high-speed simulation

AC Microwave GmbH announced the release of LINMIC Interconnect, an EM-based tool for high-speed simulation of single- and multiple-coupled transmission lines in a single- or multilayer dielectric media. Layout and substrate configurations are edited with a GUI featuring state-of-the-art functionalities and a design assistant. The quasi-static engine can handle single- and multiple-coupled strips in up to 20 dielectric layers, taking finite metallisation thickness into account. The full-wave engine can handle single- and multiple-coupled strips in up to 6 dielectric layers and 2 metallisation layers plus ground metal and top cover, taking dispersion into account. Computed results start with the characteristics of all fundamental modes (effective permittivity, transported power, dielectric and conductor loss, mode current and voltage vectors, and characteristic impedances) and the equivalent per-unit-length characteristics (such as L' and C'). For a transmission line section of finite length, the n-port S-, Y-, Z-parameters can be computed and visualized, and written into a file. Furthermore, the time domain behavior for various excitations can be visualized and a SPICE-equivalent circuit can be written into a respective netlist. The software supports designers of planar analog microwave circuits (for examples for broadside couplers or interdigital filters), as well as designers of planar high speed digital circuits (signal integrity).

Ansoft Announces Simplorer Power Suite

Ansoft Corp. released the Simplorer Power Suite, an integrated software package. The suite provides a complete design environment for power-electronic and system designers. Its capabilities far exceed those of traditional SPICE-based simulators, the company says. These capabilities, along with the seamless integration of accurate models generated by PExprt, save designers prototype iterations, time, and money, the company says. The suite combines an enhanced version of Simplorer and PExpr, and boosts the functionality of both products. Simplorer now includes enhanced DC and small-signal AC simulation capabilities, nonlinear ferrite core modeling capabilities, various semiconductor and IC models, and SPICE compatibilities. PExprt now includes foil conductors and square and twisted wire types, generation of nonlinear component models for transformers and inductors, complete with current, voltage, and power as output parameters for direct import into Simplorer. The suite also includes a new library containing frequently used DC/DC converter and other power-electronic topologies. The models are available as switching and averaged versions supporting different levels of analysis.
