Pluggable Optical Transceivers for SONET/SDH Networks

Agilent Technologies has announced a new series of small form factor pluggable (SFP) fiber optic transceivers for SONET/SDH networks. The devices include both 155 Mb/s (OC-3) and 622 Mb/s (OC-12) transceivers, both sampling today, with plans for a 2.488 Gb/s (OC-48) SFP. Agilent's new HFCT-5760xx OC-3 transceivers include long-reach and intermediate reach devices. They are available with the de-latch mechanism that eases the process of removing the transceivers in space-constrained systems and high-density applications where transceivers are packed closely together on both sides of a circuit board. The transceivers offer a multi-rate capability that allows the devices to communicate with slower transceivers. They also have an extended operating temperature range of -10 to +85° C.

RF/FO Transceiver/RS232 Subcarrier Modem and AGC

Anacom has introduced a fiber optic transceiver system for wireless transmission applications. The AC 231-GC-M3 transmits an RF signal from the base station to the remote antenna and simultaneously a digital RS232 compatible signal over the same fiber. This digital link is used to set up a communication path between the base station or hub to the remote antenna site. It can be used to communicate alarms and send commands over the same fiber as the RF signals.

Plus, a pilot tone-based AGC insures a fixed RF gain level across the FO link — adjusting for fiber loss and temperature variations. This makes for fully functional backhauling subsystems for antenna remoting or RF repeater applications. WDM can be added to transmit both uplink and downlink over the same fiber. It provides a broadband link with RF bandwidth to 2200 MHz. UHF, cellular, PCS/PCN, 3G or other wireless standards can be transmitted over the FO link. The link delivers a SFDR of 105 dB/Hz. The device accepts an RF signals via a 50Ω SMA connector from the base station and converts the RF signals into optical signal.

2.5 Gbps Pluggable VCSEL Optical Transceivers

Opticis has developed the M3-250-PAT, 2.5 Gb/s small form factor pluggable (SFP) LC type optical transceiver. Based on Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology, the 850 nm multimode transceivers meet the high speed and low jitter requirements in short-haul applications. With IEEE Standard 802.3z compliance, the transceiver serves the emerging markets for InfiniBand, Fibre Channel, and Gigabit Ethernet.The components and the transceiver are manufactured using a state-of-the-art GaAs process in a clean-room environment. The transceiver is assembled and tested by Opticis technicians, and then verified and certified to comply with FCC, CDRH, and UL standards. All products undergo reliability testing using extended environmental stress tests based on industry and military criteria.

Optocouplers Offer Isolation in High-noise Environments

With high data rate and high common mode transient immunity, NEC's PS9714 and PS9715 optocouplers are well suited for use in high-noise industrial applications like transistor gate drives in DC/DC converters, isolated RS422 communications, and motor control applications. They are designed for a 5 VDC supply voltage (7 VDC max) making them compatible with standard TTL and CMOS logic. The PS9714 features an open collector output, while the PS9715 offers a totem pole output.
