Commercial prescalers for advanced synthesizer apps

Inphi Corp. announced six pre-scalers for advanced synthesizer applications requiring low and stable phase noise at frequencies from DC to 25 GHz. These devices are typically used in high-frequency phase-locked loop (PLL) oscillator circuits.

Inphi's prescaler circuits perform divide-by-2, divide-by-4, or divide-by-8 functions. These prescalers exhibits high input power sensitivity, low added phase noise, low output harmonics, and low DC power consumption across a wide frequency range, the company says.

Inphi's divide-by-2 and divide-by-4 prescalers are currently sampling, and the divide-by-8 prescalers will be available for sampling in June. Unit pricing for the divide-by-4 circuits is $50 (die) and $74 (packaged) for production quantities of 5,000 units.

Ceramic Capacitors

AVX Corp. now offers MIL-qualified ceramic capacitors. The M123 series capacitors are designed for high performance applications in BX and BR voltage levels and for temperature stable applications in BP and BG voltage levels. The M123A10 through M123A13 have been tested in accordance with MIL-PRF-123 specifications and are available in a wide range of values and tolerances.

The M123 series capacitors offer design and component engineers technology for SMD processing and applications requiring space-level reliability. These MIL-qualified ceramic capacitors are designed for use in critical frequency applications, timing circuits and all applications where absolute stability is required (BP and BG) as well as in applications where a wider capacitance variation in temperature, voltage, frequency and life span can be tolerated (BX and BR).

MIL-PRF-123 series capacitors are processed to order in 26 weeks fully tested. Pricing, based on size and quantity ordered, is between $2.00 and $8.55 each.

Solid-state power amplifier

Aethercomm Inc. introduced its newest high power, broadband, solid state power amplifier that operates from 1.7 GHz to 2.5 GHz. The P1 dB at 25° C is 20 watts minimum. The saturated output power is 25 watts typical at 25° C. Typical small signal gain is 45 dB. Noise Figure is 6 dB typical at 25° C. Input VSWR is 2.0:1 maximum. Output VSWR is 2.0:1 maximum. This unit is equipped with Aethercomm's proprietary DC switching circuitry that enables and disables the DC-DC circuitry in 400 nSec typical on this unit.

Standard features include reverse polarity protection, output short and open circuit protection, and an integrated DC-DC converter with over/under voltage protection. This power amplifier operates from a +12 VDC power supply with a class A bias of typically 15 amps. This amplifier operates from -40° C to +65° C base plate temperature.

Standard housing size is approximately 4.5 inches × 8.0 inches × 1.0 inches. An SMA female connectors is standard on the RF input port, and an SMA male connector is standard on the output port.

Hermetic SMT frequency dividers

Hittite Microwave Corp. an-nounces the introduction of a family of hermetic SMT packaged GaAs HBT MMIC frequency dividers for Hi-Rel commercial, military and aerospace PLL applications.

The HMC364G8, HMC365G8 and HMC363G8 prescalers offer divide ratios of 2, 4, and 8, respectively in 8 lead Hermetic SMT packages.

Both the HMC364G8 and HMC365G8 operate from DC to 13 GHz input frequency while the HMC363G8 operates from DC to 12 GHz. The low additive 100 kHz SSB phase noise ranges from -145 dBc per Hz for the HMC364G8 to -153 dBc per Hz for the HMC363G8, and all three products operate from a single +5 VDC supply.

The low phase noise, coupled with the +5 dBm nominal output power, helps ensure synthesizer designers maintain system noise performance. Sample and production quantities are available.

Hermetic Schottky diodes

Advanced Power Technology Inc. announced its new product line of 200 volt rugged Schottky Diodes built in hermetic packages. This new line of diodes feature:

  • Lower forward voltage drop (VF) to minimize conduction losses;
  • Softer reverse recovery characteristics;
  • Avalanche energy rated; and
  • Built-in hermetic TO-257 and TO-254 packages for Hi-Rel applications or harsh environments.

These Schottky Diodes can replace FREDs as output rectifiers in high power 48 Volt DC-DC converters and as free wheeling and anti-parallel diodes in low voltage converters. Two-hundred volt, 15 Amp and 30 Amp Schottky are available in TO-257 and TO-254 hermetic packages. Limited samples and volume production are now available. Small volume pricing (500 pieces) ranges from $47.55 to $61.23. Military screening option is available.

High performance OCXOs

Greenray Industries Inc. an-nounced the availability of its Model YH1322, a new addition to the company's lineup of high performance OCXOs.

The YH1322 Series OCXO offers typical phase noise of -150 dBc (at 100 Hz offset), and a phase noise floor of -170 dBc, in a 2 inch square package. Standard temperature stabilities to ±1.0 × 10-8 are available, with typical aging performance of ±5.0 × 10-10.

The YH1322 has been designed for a variety of military airborne and ground-based applications, and can be screened to military specifications including MIL-PRF 55310 and MIL-STD 202. The YH1322 is suitable for various satcom, GPS and instrumentation applications, as well.

High-rel ruggedized clocks

Corning Frequency Control Inc., a subsidiary of Corning Inc., announced new hybrid packaging options.

The new hybrid packaging options include:

  • The 1116 (HCMOS) and 1117 (TTL) J-lead SMT Series. These are ruggedized versions of the [RTF bookmark start: OLE_LINK25]MIL-PRF-55310/[RTF bookmark end: OLE_LINK25]27 and MIL-PRF-55310/28.
  • The 1115 Series. A four pin DIP nearly half the length of a 14 pin MIL-PRF-55310/18 (HCMOS) device.

All OS-68338 devices exceed MIL-STD-202 vibration and shock levels normally imposed for tactical and space flight environments.

All OS-68338 devices are available in optional radiation-hardened designs with swept quartz for the most extreme operating environments. Designed for standard 5.0 VDC operation, optional 3.3 VDC input is available.
