products Jun 1, 2003 12:00 PM Low-noise amplifier ICs for broadband millimeter wave communications
TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. announced the introduction of three new low-noise amplifier (LNA) integrated circuits (ICs), the TGA4506, TGA4507, and TGA4508, for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint millimeter wave digital radios, and Ka-Band VSAT applications. The TGA4506 operates at 20 GHz to 27 GHz frequency and features a noise figure of 2.2 dB typical, gain of 21 dB, output power of +12 dBm P-1dB in a 1.2 mm × 0.8 mm × 0.1 mm package. The TGA4507 operates at 28 GHz to 36 GHz frequency, features a noise figure of 2.3 dB typical, gain of 22 dB, output power of +12 dBm P-1dB in a 1.86 mm × 0.85 mm × 0.1 mm package. The TGA4508 operates at 30 GHz to 42 GHz frequency and features a noise figure of 2.8 dB typical, gain of 21 dB, output power of +14 dBm P-1dB in a 1.7 mm × 0.8 mm × 0.1 mm package. All devices are offered in chip form. Bond pad and backside metallization is gold plated for compatibility with eutectic alloy attachment methods, as well as with thermocompression and thermosonic wire bonding. FILTERS
SAW filters series
ILSI America Inc. announced a new family of surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters in SMD packages for mobile devices. The SAW package sizes are: 3.0 mm × 3.00 mm × 1.4 mm for the SAW-13000 series; 3.8 mm × 3.8 mm × 1.4 mm for the SAW-14000 series; and 5.0 mm × 5.0 mm × 1.4 mm for the SAW-15000 series. The center frequency range for all series is 500 MHz to 1000 MHz. Prices start at $0.80 each. MIXERS
Broadband LTCC frequency mixers
Mini-Circuits Inc. introduced a new series of broadband LTCC frequency mixers. The MCA1 series, with levels 7, 10 and 13 (LO) available, are made for 300 MHz to 6 GHz frequency designs. The double balanced mixers feature insertion loss down to 6 dB and isolation up to 40 dB typically. The new mixers are built with hermetically sealed circuitry embedded inside the ceramic for temperature stability, repeatability and its 0.07 inch profile, making them ideal for the government COTS program, as well as commercial applications, the company says. Prices start at $5.95 each in 10 unit quantities. Dynamic range monolithic mixers
Hittite Microwave Corp. announced a new line of high dynamic range monolithic mixers — the HMC399MS8, the HMC400MS8, and the HMC402MS8. The company says the new mixers achieve up to +36 dBm input IP3 for cellular/PCS/3G infrastructure applications. The HMC399MS8 covers 700 MHz to 1000 MHz RF, and 60 MHz to 250 MHz IF frequencies for GSM/CDMA-based cellular transmit or receive frequency plans. The HMC400MS8 covers 1.7 GHz to 2.2 GHz RF, and 50 MHz to 300 MHz IF frequencies for many UMTS/PCS transmit or receive frequency plans configured for low side LO. The HMC402MS8 covers 1.8 GHz to 2.2 GHz frequencies for high side LO GSM/CDMA based UMTS/3G or PCS applications. The new mixers do not require any DC bias and are available in plastic surface mount 8 lead mini small outline packages (MSOP). TEST & MEASUREMENT
Thermoelectric-cooled RF test sockets
Aries Electronics Inc. introduced its RF test sockets with thermoelectric cooling for BGA, LGA and CSP packages. The company says the sockets are ideal for high-powered devices that require exceptional thermal management. The sockets also feature a built-in thermistor to record temperatures and a copper heat sink with an integrated fan assembly. Tx/Rx
Frequency multipliers
Nextec Microwave & RF Inc. released a new line of frequency multipliers operating from 18 GHz to 40 GHz. They are integrated microwave assemblies that includes an input buffer amplifier, balanced diode doubler, band-pass filter, output power amplifier, and low-pass filter. They are designed to provide high power with a pure signal operating from 0 dBm to +10 dBm input power over -30° C to +70° C.
