Test systems get GCF certification
May 1, 2005 12:00 PM

Further solidifying its position in the 3G test solutions space, Anritsu Company has achieved a unique distinction of meeting the industry-wide objective for W-CDMA user equipment (UE) test cases as outlined in current 3GPP TS 34.121 specification. The company has announced that its ME7873A W-CDMA TRX/performance test system and ME7874A W-CDMA RRM (Radio Resource Management) test system have been certified by the Global Certification Forum (GCF). According to Anritsu, the ME7873A/ME7874A are the industry's first test solutions certified by the GCF as meeting all its requirements for Tx, Rx performance, and RRM measurements, including those passed by the GCF in January 2005.

The ME7873A/ME7874A comprise the only test platform that meets the industrywide objective of performing 80% of the high priority protocol tests cases outlined in the most recent 3GPP TS 34.121 specification. Because the ME7873A/ME7874A are GCF certified, all UE that pass tests conducted using the test systems are automatically GCF certified. This can save UE manufacturers significant time and expense by eliminating the need to seek third-party GCF certification.

The ME7873A/ME7874A are automatic testing systems for measuring W-CDMA UE conformance to 3GPP standards. Both test systems can be used during W-CDMAUE development and final evaluation. For further support, Anritsu has developed the MX785220A Conformance Toolkit upgrade to its market-leading 3G protocol test system (PTS). Comprised of fully validated test cases in ready-to-run GCF-approved software, the Toolkit provides full documentation and validation certificates.

Anritsu has also designed the Toolkit for quick and easy updating when new test cases are approved or existing test cases are re-validated. As part of its 3G leader-ship position, Anritsu expects to be an active participant in future GCF meetings and develop test solutions that earn GCF certification.

GCF is an industry forum for collaboration between network operators and terminal manufacturers. It provides an independent testing program and criteria to ensure interoperability between 2G and 3G mobile devices and networks. Leading network operators and handset vendors around the world support the GCF certification process.
