Sweden military selects U.S. communications equipment manufacturer to provide software-defined radios
Jun 21, 2005 4:13 PM

Rockwell Collins has been awarded a $16.5-million contract to provide a Tactical Data Radio System (TDRS) for the Swedish military. Sweden’s Defense Materiel Administration awarded the contract, which calls for Rockwell Collins to deliver 76 multichannel software-defined radios (SDRs), along with documentation and training. The radios will be compliant with Software Communications Architecture (SCA) standards to ensure functionality and expandability.

TDRS will support the Swedish armed forces initiative to develop a network-based defense. The SDR system will comprise modular, open-architecture, hardware and software components, and will host a customized, high-data rate, networked waveform. The new waveform will provide Swedish tactical forces with a wireless, mobile, ad-hoc network capable of simultaneous voice, data, and video communications.
