Software expands measurement capability of digital communications analyzer Aug 9, 2005 9:46 PM
Agilent Technologies has introduced new impedance and S-parameter software for its 86100C Infiniium digital communication analyzer, a wide-bandwidth oscilloscope with jitter analysis. The 86100C-202 Enhanced Impedance and S-parameter software will enable digital designers to make both single-ended and differential S-parameter measurements on devices in accordance with the various high-speed serial communication standards. In what is said to be the first time ever, engineers will be able to analyze an entire communications system from the transmitter, with traditional scope and jitter measurements, to the channel, with the new S-parameter and impedance software—and to the receiver, with the on-board equalizer capability. The software adds corrected impedance profile, enabling designers and manufacturers to obtain accurate impedance measurements of discontinuities in the devices undergoing test. The software also provides the ability to measure the minimum, maximum and average of a displayed impedance, leading to quicker and more accurate characterization of circuit discontinuities, and providing important information as to how to improve the design. List price of the Agilent 86100C-202 Enhanced Impedance and S-Parameter Software is $6000; it is expected to ship in October.
