Common criteria certification is awarded for a security management product
Mar 14, 2007 11:41 AM

Q1 Labs, a network security management company, has received the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2) certification for its QRadar v5.1.2 product. QRadar is said to be the first network security management product to meet the strict government IT security requirements as outlined by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP).

QRadar goes beyond traditional security information/event management (SIEM) products or network behavior analysis (NBA) products by creating a command-and-control center that can monitor, analyze and remediate threats. The product combines, analyzes and manages an unequalled set of surveillance data — network behavior, security events, vulnerability profiles and threat information — to empower enterprises to manage business operations on their networks efficiently from a single console.

Within the federal government and large, security-sensitive commercial organizations, maintaining the most comprehensive security and network management solution is a crucial priority. Combining network and security functions (SIEM and NBA) enables agencies to better manage threats, implement effective log management and validate federal compliance mandates.

NIAP is a U.S. government initiative formed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency to create an international standard for security in information technology being deployed in government and commercial organizations. It’s Common Criteria Evaluation and Validation Scheme (CCEVS) aims to create the highest possible standards in the security testing, evaluation and assessment of information technology being deployed in government organizations. CCEVS is recognized by the United States, Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, and Greece and is increasingly being adopted by commercial organizations all over the world.
