DoD 2005 budget allots $1.3 million for continuing development of bipolar nickel-metal hydride batteries for aircraft Dec 22, 2004 11:05 PM
Electro Energy Inc., a developer and manufacturer of advanced rechargeable batteries, has announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) budget for fiscal year 2005 allocates $1.3 million for the continuation of manufacturing technology development of bipolar, nickel-metal hydride aircraft batteries. The Danbury, Conn.-based firm currently is engaged in a project with the U.S. Air Force, managed by Wright Patterson Air Force Base. "The funds provided in the DoD's 2005 budget will enable us to continue our development efforts, supporting the transition of the technology from laboratory prototypes to military-qualified products," says Martin Klein, Electro Energy's CEO. "This funding significantly complements the funds we have raised in our recent private placement, which are being used to expand our manufacturing capabilities and marketing initiatives for commercial and military customers," he adds. Electro Energy's Colorado Springs facility, Electro Energy Mobile Products Inc., currently manufactures super NiCd's for U.S. Government satellite systems and legacy military aircraft—such as the B-52, B-1 and Cobra helicopters.
