 Contract spurs U.S. Air Force High Power Microwave program Jan 10, 2005 6:25 PM
A contract supporting the Air Force's High Power Microwave (HPM) program has been awarded to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Under the terms of the contract, the SAIC team will develop new technologies and perform applications research and development in pulsed power and HPMs, with the focus on transitioning important non-lethal technologies to end users in the Department of Defense and other federal agencies. The task will be performed by SAIC's Applied Sciences Operation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The award was made by the Directed Energy Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at the Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. It is a five-year, $49.9 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. Directed-energy technology solutions are viewed as important tools for national security, homeland defense, and the global war on terror. The SAIC team includes 25 subcontractors that will bring their scientific and engineering expertise in directed energy to AFRL. The program will be managed by Charles Gilman, vice president and manager of SAIC's Applied Sciences Operation, out of their Albuquerque office. This project is expected to support nearly 150 jobs, with most in the Albuquerque area.
