Dual display lighting-management device for LED and OLED displays Apr 25, 2007 2:30 PM
Sipex Corporation has announced its SP6415, the latest addition to its family of white LED drivers. The device features an inductive boost converter powering two independent drivers that, in turn, power the white LED main panel backlighting and the OLED sub-display or additional white LEDs. The device is offered in a space-saving DFN-10 package. Well suited for dual-display architectures each driver output current is programmed by a single external resistor. PWM dimming is possible via the enable pin that is used also to put the device into a 1-microampere sleep mode thereby greatly extending battery life. With an output voltage up to 20 V, as many as five LEDs in series can be powered at more than 80% efficiency when the SP6415 is powered from a single-cell, lithium-ion battery, or internal 3.3 V or 5 V power rails found in most hand-held equipment. When switching from powering the main display to the sub-display, the voltage is adjusted automatically to maximize efficiency and to minimize power loss. The device also offers a full protection scheme against fault conditions such as overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, as well as undervoltage lock-up. The SP6415 is supplied in a small lead-free DFN-10 RoHS-compliant package meeting the extended operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. The device is priced at $1.40 each in quantities of 1000.
