New wideband phase shifters for military, space and fiber-optic applications Jul 26, 2005 7:09 PM
The Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced an MMIC phase shifter product line that is particularly useful for adjusting the phase of clocks in fiber-optic systems and test equipment and for beam-shaping, signal-cancellation applications in antennas. The first three products in this new line are well suited for military, space, and fiber-optic applications from 5 GHz to 18 GHz and are available in bare die, surface-mount packages, and connectorized-module form factors. The HMC247 is a 5 GHz to 18 GHz analog phase shifter die that provides a continuously variable phase shift of 0 degrees to 450 degrees at 5 GHz, and 0 degrees to 100 degrees at 18 GHz. The phase shift is monotonic and controlled by a single analog dc voltage from 0 V to +10V. Insertion loss is less than 4 dB and is relatively constant over variations in control voltage. The HMC247 die is compatible with standard epoxy-die attach techniques, and ball or wedge wirebonding. For surface-mount applications, the HMC538LP4 6 GHz to 15 GHz analog phase shifter is housed in a leadless, QFN 4x4 mm SMT package and provides a variable phase shift of 0 degrees to 750 degrees at 6 GHz, and 0 degrees to 450 degrees at 15 GHz. The HMC538LP4 is controlled by a single positive voltage from 0 V to +5 V and can be modulated over a 50 MHz band. An RoHS compliant version is also available as the HMC538LP4E. For test equipment and instrumentation applications where robust packaging is required, the HMC-C010 6 GHz to 15 GHz analog phase shifter module offers the same wideband performance as the HMC538LP4, and is housed in a miniature, hermetically sealed module with removable SMA connectors. The HMC-C010 is rated for operation over a temperature range of -55 ºC to +85 ºC. Samples are available from stock and can be ordered on line.
