Plans are afoot to provide a high-performance fingerprint biometric solution
Jan 10, 2007 11:35 AM

Symwave and Cogent Systems have signed an agreement to integrate Cogent's image reconstruction technology directly into Symwave's biometric hardware products. The combined solution of Cogent's image reconstruction and Symwave's sensors will enable consumer electronic, PC and mobile device manufacturers to integrate high-performance biometric security and convenience features into their high-volume applications targeting consumer and enterprise markets.

Under this agreement, Cogent's fingerprint reconstruction algorithms will initially be integrated into Symwave's BioPrint SW6888 fingerprint swipe sensor product offerings. Symwave's BioPrint SW6888 sensor is a high-performance fingerprint solution targeting low-power, small form-factor portable and peripheral devices. Symwave currently offers SW6888-based reference design solutions for the portable storage, notebook/PC peripherals and application markets.

Cogent is a leader in biometric identification solutions ranging from nationally distributed network Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, enterprise solutions, licensing and custom biometric designs. The company provides Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, or AFIS, and other fingerprint biometric solutions to governments, law enforcement agencies and other organizations worldwide. Cogent's AFIS solutions enable customers to capture fingerprint images electronically, encode fingerprints into searchable files and accurately compare a set of fingerprints to a database containing potentially millions of fingerprints in seconds.

A supplier of high-performance analog/mixed-signal semiconductor solutions for the PC, electronic and mobile device markets, privately held Symwave was founded in 2001. It has its headquarters in San Diego, CA, and offices in Southern China.
