Rugged, portable external hard drive unveiled Jan 10, 2005 6:29 PM
Olixir Technologies has introduced its Mobile DataVault 2LX external hard drive in a lightweight 12.5-ounce package that exceeds MIL-STD-810F transit drop test requirements. The drive is as compact as a VHS tape, yet tough enough to withstand numerous six-foot drops. Also available with a desktop Plug-and-Play USB 2.0/Firewire chassis, the Mobile DataVault 2LX is an easy-to-use tape drive replacement solution for data backup and archival in small- and medium-sized enterprises. This hard drive is well suited for applications such as military field storage, mobile video surveillance, and offsite data archival. Compatible with Olixir USB 2.0, Firewire, and Serial ATA interface cables; the DataVault 2LX incorporates an 8 MB cache, enabling the user to transfer up to one GB of data in less than 40 seconds. This hard drive can also be used with the Olixir 5.25-inch docking bay, which is suitable for applications requiring frequent hard-drive replacement. With a height of 1.40 inches, width of 4.45 inches and length of 7.5 inches, the hard drive is compact enough to fit into the palm of a hand, making it easily transportable in a briefcase. The price of the 60 GB version of the Mobile DataVault 2LX drive is $549, with discounts for volume purchases. The drive is also available in 40 GB, 80 GB and 100 GB versions.
