Broadband general-purpose amplifiers for military and wireless communication applications
Oct 12, 2005 1:55 PM

Microwave Technology Inc., a division of the IXYS Corporation, has added two broadband, general-purpose amplifiers to its line of MPS amplifier modules. They are the MPS-032701A-82 and MPS-0425A9D-82, both well suited for applications requiring medium power, high gain and high linearity. The MPS-032701A-82 operates from 300 MHz to 2700 MHz and the MPS-0425A9D-82 covers 400 MHz to 2500 MHz.

The MPS-032701A-82 is a matched GaAs-FET amplifier in a ceramic, surface-mount package. It can be employed in digital communication applications and as a buffer-driver-amplifier for a local-oscillator mixer stage—or as a wideband, variable-gain amplifier. Its high gain (20 dB), excellent linearity (+34 dBm for IP3), high P1dB (+20 dBm) and high efficiency when powered by a single 5 V supply makes it an excellent replacement for TO-8 type modules used in earlier military radio systems.

The MPS-0425A9D-82 is a high-linearity (+42 dBm for IP3), high-P1dB (+25 dBm) modular amplifier designed to meet the ultralinear transmitter driver requirements of wireless base station infrastructure applications such as 2G, 2.5G and 3G, and standards such as GSM, TDMA, cdma, Edge, cdma 2000, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA and UMTS.

These products can also be used for 802.11, 802.16 WiMAX base station applications. In addition, they can be employed in point-to-point wireless communication links. The devices are fabricated at Microwave Technology's GaAs fabrication facility using process technologies that have proven to be reliable in commercial and hi-rel/space applications.

Both modules are competitively priced and can be supplied in surface-mount packages. Evaluation demo boards are available; the devices are deliverable from stock.
