Vector signal generator is strengthened for Mobile WiMAX MIMO RX evaluation Feb 14, 2007 3:43 PM
The Anritsu Corporation has introduced its MX370105A Mobile WiMAX IQproducer application software for its MG3700A vector signal generator. This strengthened functions of the MG3700A by supporting generation of waveform patterns needed for evaluating Mobile WiMAX, MIMO downlink (base-station to terminal) RX functions. Using this new software with the MG3700A adds support for generation of MIMO waveform patterns, which are a key item in the Mobile WiMAX feature set for evaluating RX performance, and saves equipment costs by eliminating the large amount of expensive test equipment — such as waveform generators, signal generators, and phase adjusters required previously, The first version of the MX370105A Mobile WiMAX IQproducer PC application software for generating any Mobile WiMAX waveform pattern standardized by IEEE-802.16e was introduced in June 2006. This new release strengthens the function set because it adds support for Mobile Certification Wave2 standards, including MIMO. The MX370105A application software generates any Mobile WiMAX waveform pattern recommended by the IEEE-802.16e standard. The generated pattern is used by the MG3700A to evaluate the performance of Mobile WiMAX equipment. In the past, evaluation of MIMO functions required heavy investment in measuring equipment, such as arbitrary waveform generators, signal generators, phase adjusters, etc., causing major investment and time efficiency problems for developers. The MG3700A has a built-in 160 MHz arbitrary waveform baseband generator to produce digital modulation signals for various communications systems simply by selecting the relevant waveform pattern file. In addition, the two built-in memories support output of both the wanted waveform and the modulation interference waveform — or AWGN using one MG3700A for testing RX characteristics. This eliminates the need for two expensive signal generators and increases the efficiency of performance tests for multisystem mobile terminals, modules, devices, while improving development efficiency.
