12 GHz to 34 GHz image reject mixer is optimized for use as downconverter Dec 22, 2004 11:13 PM
Offering wide bandwidth and low conversion gain, a new gallium-arsenide, monolithic microwave, integrated-circuit image reject mixer covers the 12 GHz to 34 GHz frequency band. Introduced by Mimix Broadband Inc., this device, identified as its 20IRRFM0374, exhibits a conversion loss of 8 dB, +15 dB image rejection across the band, and an input referred third-order intercept that is greater than +24 dBm over that band. This image reject mixer is well suited for wireless communications applications such as millimeter-wave point-to-point radio, local multipoint distribution services, and SATCOM. "The exceptional bandwidth and linearity of this device make it useful for a wide range of applications," says Jim Harvey, CTO of Mimix Broadband Inc. "The use of fundamental 'cold FET' topology facilitates the design of high-performance wideband mixers with high linearity. Where high linearity is not required, the LO drive can be reduced while still maintaining good conversion loss." Mimix performs 100% on-wafer RF testing on the 20IRRFM0374, as well as 100% visual inspection in accordance with MILSTD-883, method 2010. The chip has surface passivation to protect it and to provide a rugged component with backside via holes and gold metallization. The device lends itself to a conductive-epoxy or an eutectic-solder, die-attach process. Engineering samples are available from stock, and production quantities can be shipped six to eight weeks following the receipt of the order.
