Wideband SMT MMIC VCO tunes from 5 GHz to 10 GHz
Mar 7, 2006 4:43 PM

Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced an SMT wideband voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), which is well suited for military and telecom applications from 5 GHz to 10 GHz. This VCO combines the attributes of ultrasmall size, octave tuning bandwidth, low phase noise and low-power consumption.

The HMC587LC4B VCO incorporates a resonator, a negative-resistance device, and a varactor diode. This fully integrated MMIC VCO offers a wide output frequency tuning range of GHz 5 to 10 GHz, with +5 dBm output power and very low SSB phase noise of -95 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. Output power and phase noise performance are excellent over temperature due to the oscillator’s monolithic construction. The HMC587LC4B operates from a single +5 V supply, consumes only 55 mA of current and is housed in a RoHS-compliant, 4 mm x 4mm SMT package. Samples and evaluation PC boards for all SMT packaged products are available from stock and can be ordered via the company's e-commerce site or via direct purchase order.

Hittite Microwave Corporation is a manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal ICs, MIC modules and subassemblies for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications. Their custom and standard products support wireless/wired communications and radar applications for fiber optics, microwave and millimeter-wave communications.
