Fairchild Semiconductor's 40 V breakdown DC-DC synchronous rectifier enables designers to achieve higher levels of efficiency in their power designs. This synchronous rectifier is well suited for power supplies such as DC-DC brick modules and servers where high efficiency and a small footprint are essential. The FDMS8460 exhibits low R_DS(ON) and total gate charge (Q_G)_, as well as a 20 percent lower figure of merit compared with other 40 V MOSFET solutions. Packaged in an industry-standard 5 mm x 6 mm MLP package, this DC-DC synchronous rectifier provides designers the necessary performance and packaging to optimize their designs.

Fairchild's advanced performance PowerTrench MOSFET process technology enables higher output power levels without increasing the solution footprint. PowerTrench technology produces exceptionally low values of Miller charge (Q_GD), R_DS(ON) and Q_G, and improves the gate-source charge to gate-drain charge (Q_GS:Q_GD) ratio to above one. These enhancements result in superior switching performance, no shoot-through and improved thermal efficiency.

The FDMS8460's ultra-low R_DS(ON) of 2.2 milliOhms, maximum, and an extremely low Q_GD of 10 nanocoulombs enables conduction losses and switching losses to be drastically reduced. This increases the drain current through the device to improve efficiency and to reduce heat (conduction loss), an important consideration in today's power systems. This device's 40 V MOSFET rating is essential for 5 V- and 12 V-output rail voltages, often required in today's DC-DC applications.

The FDMS8460 has Pb-free terminals and has been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All Fairchild's products are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's directive on the restriction of the use of certain substances (RoHS).
