First production lot of thermal viewers shipped to support global war on terrorism
Jan 10, 2005 6:12 PM

Irvine Sensors has shipped the first production lot of Personal Miniature Thermal Viewers (PMTVs) to an undisclosed customer for use in the global war on terror. The PMTV is a hand-held, battery-operated video viewer, with display and eyepiece, which weighs less than 0.5 pound and fits comfortably in the palm of the user's hand.

Using infrared camera technology, the PMTV enables the user to see in total darkness and other adverse viewing conditions, such as smoke and fog. Because of its small size and weight, the PMTV can be stowed easily in a shirt or pants pocket when not in use.

The PMTV is available for military and commercial applications, including law enforcement, fire fighting, and security. However, it is subject to Department of State and Department of Commerce export controls and, therefore, appropriate licenses are required prior to export.
