ADT expands RFID offerings
Sep 15, 2005 2:53 PM

ADT Security Services Inc., a part of Tyco Fire & Security, has unwrapped a high-speed integrated printer and automatic RFID label applicator, giving companies with large-scale RFID operations the ability to efficiently tag cases and pallets. The Sensormatic RFID printing applicator combines into one process the printing and applying of RFID labels to cases and pallets. Its compact design allows it to easily integrate into existing packaging lines, case palletizing processes and distribution centers without requiring the end user to make substantial structural changes to their existing infrastructure.

According to Randy Dunn, director of RFID for ADT, many end-users are still printing labels and then manually applying them to cases and pallets. “Manually applying labels can be inefficient and costly,” Dunn said. “For RFID to work for large end-users in environments where many products are being tagged, it is critical that label application be automated.”

The new Sensormatic printer applicator has self-diagnostic capabilities and can place labels at high speeds on the tops or sides of cases. It also can quickly detect defective or non-operating RFID labels, reject them and apply a working label in its place.

“We believe this printer applicator is one of the fastest and most versatile on the market, and is a strong addition to our RFID product line,” Dunn said.

The new printer applicator will be added to ADT’s existing line of RFID products including the market-leading Sensormatic intelligent readers, antennas, labels, device software and integration services.
