Aeroflex lands multi-million-dollar contract for mobile handset conformance testing
Jun 2, 2005 3:39 PM

Aeroflex has won a multi-million-dollar contract from SGS, a leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. The order, which is expected to be performed over a two-month period, is for a comprehensive suite of mobile handset and inter-system handover test systems and test cases. This contract marks SGS' decision to expand its existing operations for mobile handset conformance testing. The Aeroflex systems and test cases are designed to further allow these services to be offered by the two SGS mobile handset test laboratories located in Shanghai and Taiwan. The order enables Aeroflex to participate in the creation and development of value-added wireless communications design services in the region.

"This is a significant expansion for SGS to better serve the handset manufacturers for successes in handset certification," said Erwin Lobe, business development director, IT/Telecommunication East Asia, SGS. "And success means that quality of service will be paramount from the outset. Critical to this is the quality of the test cases that we use, and Aeroflex has consistently demonstrated that it not only has the best but is able to remain at the forefront of technology."

The order placed by SGS is for a full suite of test systems and test cases for both laboratories. These include GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, AMR and UMTS handset conformance test cases and GSM-UMTS inter-system handover test cases.

"This is an important order for Aeroflex for several reasons," said Peter Connell, business director, Aeroflex Wireless. "SGS, a leading test house, is placing its faith squarely in the quality of our test cases as it expands its mobile handset conformance testing business. In addition, it places Aeroflex firmly in the vanguard of the value-added design services industry that is emerging to serve the established wireless communications manufacturing capability in the region."
