Airbee, Radiocrafts partner to deliver turnkey ZigBee solutions
Apr 28, 2005 3:55 PM

Rockville, Maryland-based Airbee Wireless Inc. and Oslo, Norway-based Radiocrafts AS have announced a cooperative arrangement to deliver "out-of-the-box" ZigBee-ready solutions. Airbee will supply its enabling intelligent software on Radiocrafts' sophisticated ZigBee-ready module platforms. The parties have executed a licensing agreement for Airbee's embedded ZigBee-ready network software. The two partners will offer a ready-made platform for integrators and OEMs looking for turnkey ZigBee solutions through the use of ZigBee-ready module platforms.

Airbee's intelligent networking solutions adhere to the ZigBee specifications and bring unique software with its embedded ZigBee protocol software (Airbee-ZNS), including built-in test agents, self-tests, and support tools. Airbee is also offering to the end-user the ZigBee network management software solution (Airbee-ZNMS) that enables rapid commissioning of interoperable ZigBee networks, according to the developer. This breakthrough approach is critical to the ZigBee technology rollout in commercial and industrial automation, said Airbee.

Radiocrafts, a provider of standard RF modules and systems for short-range radio, has recently launched a series of compact ZigBee-ready RF modules operating at 2.45 GHz. The shielded modules made for surface-mounting measure only 16.5 mm x 29.2 mm x 3.5 mm, optionally available with integrated antenna or RF connector. The manufacturer has designed several application-specific platforms for home automation, building management systems and industrial control.

"The need for fast time-to-market by using a modular approach, coupled with an integrated Airbee network management solution, enables system implementers to deploy ZigBee networks and solutions they need," said Raj Sundaresan, Airbee's CEO.

Peder Martin Evjen, Radiocrafts' general manager, added; "With Airbee's software-embedded inside, we can now provide a scalable and total turnkey solution. We now have a complete deployable ZigBee module, including the application and a protocol stack that fits into a total ZigBee network management solution. Because ZigBee customers are looking for solutions, not just controllers and radios, we can now satisfy their needs".
