Cirronet, Chipcon partnership offers ZigBee wireless solution
Oct 20, 2005 1:36 PM

ZigBee-ready IC supplier Chipcon AS and Cirronet Inc. have formed a partnership to facilitate the creation of third-party ZigBee wireless solutions. Under the arrangement, Chipcon and Cirronet will partner to provide developers complete module-level solutions for industrial ZigBee applications.

“With over a million ZigBee-ready chips sold, and having recently announced its second-generation, single-chip solution, Chipcon has become central to the ZigBee movement,” says Bob Gemmell, Cirronet CEO. “But not everyone who needs ZigBee and Chipcon is equipped to take a direct handoff from a major chip manufacturer. When that’s the case, Cirronet’s development experience can free them to focus on their applications and their core competencies.”

Cirronet has relied on Chipcon technology at the core of its rich ZigBee product line, which includes a variety of OEM modules, developer’s kits, signal conditioning boards, sensor modems and gateways. The company is in the process of migrating its own products to Chipcon’s newly available single-chip technology.

“By offering a ZigBee system on a single chip, our new CC2430 family enables the rapid introduction of cost-effective ZigBee solutions,” says Geir Forre, Chipcon CEO. “Cirronet’s experience with our products and familiarity with our technology roadmap make them a dependable, proven partner who can help developers requiring further assistance get to market quickly and cost-effectively.”
