Enea, Anritsu ink software deal Sep 23, 2004 2:22 PM
Embedded software provider Enea Embedded Technology and Anritsu Japan have signed a major software contract. Under the deal, Anritsu has chosen the Enea's OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) as a core technology for its PureFlow traffic shaper bandwidth control engine. The contract with Anritsu marks a significant milestone for Enea in addressing the Asian communications and network equipment market. OSE is the leading operating system for the communications market in Europe and United States. Enea has been taking an active part in the Japanese market since 2001. "In Europe and the U.S.A., the OSE real-time operating system is already widely recognized for use in network and communications equipment," explained Christophe Ballan, Enea Embedded Technology's executive vice president of sales, Eurasia. "We are very pleased to see that our advanced OSE technology is now becoming well recognized by leading companies like Anritsu in the Japanese market. We are confident that we will be able to continue to extend this success in the Asian market." Anritsu's high-precision "PureFlow Traffic Shaper" bandwidth control engine protects entire IP networks from the traffic bursts transmitted by streaming servers and real-time encoders used in IP network video distribution systems. The PureFlow Traffic Shaper permits simultaneous control of ten one-gigabit links. This makes it easy for communication carriers and Internet service providers (ISPs) to control bandwidth and ensure smooth operation of high-precision content distribution services on the network without requiring changes in IP network topology and network equipment. Anritsu chose the OSE RTOS for its memory management support, error detection capabilities, small memory footprint, scalability, and hard real-time capabilities. Yuhei Iwasaki, manager for Anritsu's PureFlow business promotion, explained, "We selected OSE because it has a proven track record. The main criteria that led us to choose OSE were its high-availability, high-reliability, and scalability as well as its capacity for distributed systems. With OSE, these are all feasible without adverse effects on overall system performance." The OSE RTOS is suitable for complex, distributed, fault-tolerant communication systems. OSE's built-in memory protection, error handling, automatic supervision and dynamic memory management dramatically reduce the time and cost of developing and maintaining real-time systems while simultaneously improving quality, availability and reliability. OSE also simplifies and streamlines distributed systems by using direct message-passing, which facilitates transparent communications between multiple processes, whether they reside on one or multiple processors.
