FreeWave releases licensed-band 1.4 GHz radio Oct 6, 2005 3:05 PM
FreeWave Technologies has released a licensed-band 1.4 GHz radio, the LRS-140. Fulfilling demands from institutions in need of reliable wireless communication options, FreeWave's 1.4 GHz system is designed for use in some of the most extreme RF environments, including Class 1 and Division 2 areas, and enables error-free information transmission for a wide variety of applications. "We appreciate the commitment FreeWave Technologies has made to developing a 1.4 GHz radio and are looking forward to having another credible option for communications to Rod Pump Controllers (commonly referred to as Pump Off Controllers) and other SCADA devices," said Rick Smith, chairman of the newly formed Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) Board of Directors. The FCC has recently allocated 200 licensable channels in the 1.4 GHz bandwidth, and FreeWave is leveraging this opportunity to serve oil and gas, public safety, other industrial, government and military customers with the new technology. Customers can get assistance with obtaining 1.4 GHz licenses by going to the EWA's website at enterprisewireless.org. "We are glad to see an additional licensed frequency that is available as an alternative to 450. With 450 MHz being susceptible to interference from voice signals, this 1.4 GHz will be a great alternative. We are very excited to have FreeWave with their quality and reputation, getting into this side of the business," said Andy Cordova of Lufkin Automation.
