M/A-COM, a unit of Tyco Electronics, has announced that a wide range of its recently released semiconductor components and solutions are RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)-compliant. RoHS is a European legislative directive that bans the use of cadmium, hexavalent chromium, lead, mercury, PBBs (polybrominated biphenyls) and PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) in components sold in the European Union by July 2006.

"The international call for environmentally friendly solutions within electronic components and systems is receiving an increased level of attention within the industry," said Rob Rix, M/A-COM's vice president, sales and marketing. "M/A-COM is committed to developing products and manufacturing processes that meet and exceed international environmental manufacturing guidelines and standards. We are dedicated to working with our customers to offer products and solutions which fulfill their technical and business needs while fully complying with RoHS legislation."

In addition to being lead-free, most of M/A-Com's RoHS products are compatible with the elevated temperature processing conditions needed to manufacture RoHS-compliant electronics.
