Mimix Broadband adds Taiwan subsidiary
Mar 17, 2005 4:23 PM

Mimix Broadband, Inc. has acquired a majority stake in Hocom Communications, Inc., a MMIC test, inspection and packaging operation based in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Mimix plans to operate Hocom as a production center. This acquisition allows Mimix to gain immediate access to nearly 8000 square feet of production floor space in Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park, which is near Mimix's wafer fabrication and other production partners. The strategic location of Hocom enables Mimix to shorten its production cycle time and to expedite delivery to its customers.

Initially, Hocom is providing die picking and visual inspection, warehousing, and logistics coordination with local suppliers. In the future, Mimix plans to expand its production activities in Taiwan by adding on-wafer RF test and packaging assembly capabilities. The facility already includes a Class 10,000 clean room that allows for the planned expansion of testing and assembly capabilities.

Kit Yong, Mimix VP Business Development, will serve as Hocom's chairman of the board. Additional new Hocom board members include Charles Lee, Mimix board member, Rick Montgomery, Mimix CEO, and Carl Frampton, Mimix CFO.

"We are very pleased to add this strategically located facility to the Mimix organization," stated Rick Montgomery, CEO, Mimix Broadband. "This new Taiwanese subsidiary significantly simplifies logistics and improves cycle time, due to its close proximity to some of our wafer fabrication and packaging partners. Our plans to further extend this facility's capabilities to testing production wafers will shorten our production cycles and will continue our commitment to meeting our customers' needs. We welcome our new team members at this facility, and we look forward to working with them."
