Ultra-small chip coils suit handsets
Feb 16, 2006 11:54 AM

Murata Manufacturing has developed an ultra-small film type chip coil at 0.4 mm x 0.2 mm x 0.2 mm (01005 EIA size), optimal for high-frequency circuits housed in compact mobile equipment including cellular phones.

By revamping Murata's own latest micro-fabrication technology and internal structure and optimizing coil formation, the 01005 EIA size was developed from the conventional ultra-small 0201 EIA size. The mounting area of this new chip coil is reduced approximately 40% from the 0201 EIA size, contributing to making equipment smaller and lower-profile.

The new processing technology realizes high-Q, encompassing high frequency range and stable inductance in spite of the 01005 EIA size. Its inductance is between 0.4 nH to 10 nH, and inductance tolerance is ±0.3 nH ±5%.

Mass-production is scheduled to start in April 2006, at 1 million units per month.
