RFIC supplier extends operations in Asia
Sep 23, 2004 2:09 PM

In response to increasing demand for its wireless power amplifiers and RF front-end solutions in consumer electronics, SiGe Semiconductor has unveiled plans to further expand its operations in Asia.

This announcement comes as the electronics supply chain continues to undergo a transition with production moving to mainland China. To realize significant manufacturing efficiencies, the leading brand names in consumer electronics are relying on Asian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs) to produce everything from PCs and laptop computers to PDAs, digital cameras, computer peripherals, access points, cellular phones, and GPS.

Since its RFICs are implemented in a wide range of these applications, SiGe Semiconductor's growth strategy is to deliver best technology and application design support to OEMs and ODMs by being closer to them. So far in 2004, the company has shipped more than 20 million power amplifiers and RF front-end solutions to ODMs and OEMs in China, Taiwan, and Korea.

As part of its strategy, SiGe Semiconductor will add operations and application development teams to its office in Hong Kong. Local application support will assist customers in board layout and design optimization to speed the development cycle. The new operations team will focus on supply line management, providing local, real-time support to SiGe's extensive test and assembly resources in this region. These plans enhance SiGe's existing presence in Asia, which currently includes an established office in Hong Kong, and a full complement of distributors and representatives across China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.
