True software radio technology developer eyes China
Mar 31, 2005 3:33 PM

With plans to demonstrate its true software radio technology in Korea in May, TechnoConcepts, Inc. has also set its eyes on the Chinese market. Presenting its patented true software radio (TSR) technology to investors in New York, the company said that China represents significant growth potential for the wireless technology.

According to TechnoConcepts, it is excited about the opportunities it sees with its first licensing deal. The company recently signed a licensing agreement with China Electronics Corp., a $5 billion conglomerate under direct supervision of the central government of China. Concurrently, the company is also planning to exploit next-generation services in countries like South Korea and India.

The company believes that its TSR technology is a novel approach to solving the interoperability problem, and when integrated into a system-on-a-chip such as for cell phones, it provides a solution that is basically a base station on a chip. TechnoConcepts has decided to establish an office in Hong Kong, specifically for chip design and testing.

"During the next six to eight months we will continue staffing up to support our design efforts in CMOS and silicon germanium (SiGe) as we develop the specific applications with our licensee," said Antonio Turgeon, chairman of TechnoConcepts.

TechnoConcepts also recently announced its intended acquisition of Asante, a designer of networking devices.

"This acquisition enables us to gain a stronger foothold in the wireless area," said Turgeon. "Asante's expertise in WiFi applications will enable us to accelerate product development efforts in this area."
