Miniature OCXO is designed for space applications Mar 2, 2006 2:30 PM
French high-performance time and frequency components and sub-systems supplier Temex has launched a small-size oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) in a 1-in. x 1-in. flatpack for space applications. This new low-power consumption OCXO is designed for synchronization applications like outer space up/down link communications where a wide operating temperature range and low energy consumption are critical. It was designed to meet the ESA-SCC3501 specification and complies with MIL-PRF-55310. The frequency stability of this new OCXO has a positive impact on satellite transceiver performances and makes it a smaller, cost-effective solution. The transmission range is secured by the higher stability of the frequency and the low energy consumption is a mandatory requirement for space-borne equipment. A breadboard model or an engineering model of the OCXO is available for system validation. Other features include a frequency range of 30 MHz to 120 MHz, stability of ± 0.1 ppm nominal over a temperature range of –25°C to +70°C (vacuum condition), and aging rated at ± 2 ppm after 15 years. Its power consumption is rated at 0.3 W at 25°C in steady state (vacuum condition). It offers a phase noise floor at -155 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz from the carrier. Power supply voltage for the OCXO is 9 V. “It is the only OCXO that offers high-performances with low consumption, low phase noise and reduced volume,” stated Jean Forget, managing director of Temex’s Defense and Space Business Group.
