Fabless UWB solution provider hires industry veterans as new executives Jul 14, 2005 5:40 PM
Fabless ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless silicon solutions provider WiQuest Communications, Inc. has added two new members to its executive management team. Todd Brown joins WiQuest as vice president of sales from SyChip Inc., where he served in the same capacity. Bill Carney, formerly with Texas Instruments' WLAN Business Unit, becomes WiQuest's senior director of market development. These two wireless industry veterans join WiQuest at an important point in the company's growth and progression, as well as that of the broader UWB market. Brown has a distinguished career in the semiconductor and electronics systems business, including wireless and RF technology. As product manager for piezoelectric components at Murata Electronics, he led its marketing and product engineering efforts. Brown moved on to AMP Corp., where he grew territory sales over 1600% in just a few years. After serving at RF Monolithics as a successful business unit manager for its low power wireless products, he joined Alpha Industries, where he was sales director for Europe, including strategic accounts. Following the Conexant/Alpha merger to form Skyworks, he was largely responsible for integrating the combined sales organization along with building out its global distribution network. Most recently, Brown was instrumental in leading the sales and customer design-in process, along with driving significant revenue growth at SyChip. Brown holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Southern Polytechnic University, and has attended the MIT/Sloan School of Business Executive Program. Carney brings complementary strengths to WiQuest. He most recently served as senior director of market and business development for the Texas Instruments (TI) Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems Business (formerly Alantro Communications). TI acquired Alantro in September 2000, where Carney served as vice president of sales and marketing. Previously, he was senior director of worldwide marketing at Synopsys, Inc. Prior to his role at Synopsys, Carney spent 14 years with LSI Logic Corp. in a variety of management positions after beginning his successful career at Intel Corp. After serving two years as TI's board member of the Wi-Fi Alliance, he was elected as the Wi-Fi Alliance board chairman in both 2004 and 2005. Carney earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and pursued executive business studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
