Staccato Communications has announced that AboCom, an embedded WLAN solutions original design manufacturer (ODM), has chosen Staccato’s Ripcord family of single-chip, all-CMOS solutions based upon Certified Wireless USB for its PC dongle and hub products. Staccato’s reference designs will be the basis for these products. Additionally, AboCom will introduce an ExpressCard of its own design based on Staccato’s Ripcord chip.

According to a recently published report by In-Stat Research, the estimated worldwide market for UWB-enabled products is expected to reach 289 million units by 2010.

It also confirms our forecast that this market will begin this year and start an aggressive ramp in 2007. Single-chip CMOS solutions dominate Bluetooth and WiFi, which bodes extremely well for Staccato’s Ripcord solution,” said Chris Kissel, In-Stat Research analyst.

“The integration of Staccato’s Ripcord Chip, based on Certified Wireless USB, is indicative of their leadership in providing ODMs with timely solutions that will make Certified Wireless USB products a reality by the end of the year,” said Jeff Ravencraft president and chairman of the USB-Implementers Forum.
