Agilent, Sonim partnership to provide OMA-PoC testing capability Jun 22, 2006 2:58 PM
Agilent Technologies Inc. and Sonim Technologies have announced a cooperative effort to provide push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) test capability on Agilent's wireless communications test set. As a result, the two partners are working with their respective customers to ensure that fully interoperable Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)-PoC handsets are delivered to market in time for carrier launch activities later in 2006. As part of this collaborative effort, Sonim has provided Agilent with its PoC client and server solutions, which were used to verify the Agilent PoC test capability. In turn, Agilent has provided Sonim with its 8960 wireless communications test set instrument for benchtop network test. Targeted at developers, integrators, phone manufacturers, and anyone else testing, developing or integrating PoC capabilities into wireless mobile devices, Agilent's PoC test capability offers a more convenient and economical solution for testing and debug of user-supplied servers, clients and applications, said the supplier. The 8960 PoC solution accurately simulates a real network in a bench-top solution, eliminating the need to use conformance systems or a real network during the design and debug phases of PoC solutions. This reduces the time, expense and effort required to verify PoC performance, according to Agilent. "We are pleased to be working with Sonim, a recognized leader in the emerging PoC field, and using its OMA-PoC 1.0 end-to-end solution," said Earl Thompson, president and general manager with Agilent's Wireless Division. "Since we began working with the company earlier this year, we have increased our expertise with PoC technology. We are now leveraging this knowledge to more fully support our customers who have been using our instruments for PoC test using their own servers and clients."
