To expand from supplying embedded antennas to delivering integrated radio antenna modules for the mobile device markets, UK’s antenna solutions provider Antenova Ltd has acquired the RF design engineering team from a U.S.-based developer of advanced RF power amplifiers (PAs) for an R&D center in the Chicago area. Although the company will not identify the U.S.-based PA developer, it is anticipated that those joining Antenova are part of a layoff. Antenova’s R&D center is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2007, along with a full design and support center. This will augment its sales operations in the United States. The center is expected to house some six design engineers with expertise in GaAs and InP PAs by the end of first quarter with plans to expand the team before the end of 2007.
"The addition of this highly experienced RF design team enables Antenova to accelerate the development of our full range of Radionova integrated radio antenna modules for mobile devices and underpins our strategy for moving up the RF component value chain,” stated Greg McCray, CEO of Antenova. “Our OEM and ODM customers have been very interested in our progress, and have been providing input and direction into our development program. Having this RF expertise in-house allows us to move forward and complete the RF integration (e.g., front-end module, power amplifier, transceiver, etc) with the antenna and get Radionova modules into the market more quickly.”
