AVX Aids Earthquake Victims in China

Passive component and connector supplier AVX Corp. has pledged $140,000 (USD) to various charities and funds to help with disaster recovery for the earthquake-affected areas of the Sichuan Province in China. Contributions from the company and its employees will benefit the Chinese Embassy of Singapore for Sichuan Earthquake Relief, the China Red Cross, the Sichuan Emergency Relief Fund, the Tsinghua Emergency Relief Fund, and UNICEF.

AVX employees raised more than $30,000 with AVX Corp. donating more than $50,000 for the Chinese Embassy of Singapore for Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund. On June 27, AVX Corporate Vice President for Asia, SM Chan, presented a check in the amount of $83945.01 to the First Secretary, Zhang Yang at the Chinese Embassy office in Singapore. In all, AVX has donated more than $140,000 to earthquake relief funds. The earthquake, which measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, affected southwestern China's Sichuan Province, with hundreds of aftershocks in the same area. The earthquake destroyed thousands of buildings in the area, as well as communication network infrastructure and electrical towers.

AVX Corp. is well known as a supplier of capacitors, resistors, filters, and connectors, with 24 manufacturing and customer-support facilities in 15 countries around the world.
