Cellular GPS Market Set To Triple In Size
Sep 10, 2008 3:31 PM

Christmas stockings will no doubt be filled with GPS-enabled cellular telephones, according to the latest report from market research specialist IMS Research (www.imsresearch.com). The report, "The Worldwide Market for GPS in Cellular," explains that a bumper Christmas 2008 market is set to make GPS the hottest new feature in the cellular market. Taking the huge CDMA GPS market aside, GPS-enabled handsets are set to greatly outnumber personal navigation device (PND) shipments in 2008. The report predicts that non-CDMA handset shipments will treble in 2008 compared to the previous year. According to Patrick Connolly, GPS Research Director of IMS, "We believe the market will almost treble on 2007, with a range of handsets across all tiers. Nokia, RIM, and Apple will lead the way this year, but other handset vendors, such as Sony-Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung, LG, and a plethora of smaller Asian manufacturers are driving this market from both ends."
