Department of the Interior orders $700,000 in digital radios

The RELM Wireless Corporation has received orders totaling approximately $700,000 from agencies of the U.S. Department of the Interior. This order is for BK Radio-brand digital radio products that are compliant with the APCO Project 25 standard. The order was placed under the company's contract with the U. S. Department of the Interior. Deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter 2005.

The public safety technical standard, known as APCO Project 25, is driving accelerated growth for land mobile radio (LMR) equipment as government and public safety radio users nationwide increasingly migrate to compliant digital radio equipment. A primary requirement of P25 is interoperability among compliant equipment, regardless of the manufacturer, which is crucial for public safety and homeland security applications. RELM is one of the few manufacturers whose products currently meet the P25 specifications.

RELM's P25 products offer exceptional performance in vital areas such as battery life, audio clarity and rugged durability—all at a lower cost than comparable P25 equipment. This combination will appeal to agencies with tight budget constraints.
