RF Central highlighted its model RFX-PHT-II HD upgradeable portable 2-GHz digital transmitter at HD World 2008. The camera-mounted transmitter is designed for mobile electronic-news-gathering (ENG) use and is built inside a weather-resistant case. Standard units provide 5 W output power, although other output levels (including 7 W) are available. It can be used in a stand-alone mode for temporary transmit applications and supports a wide range of formats, including 480i, 720p and 1080i. The unit can be configured to accept either composite or component analog video, HD/SDI digital signals, and also has an ASI input. In addition, its capabilities include analog, digital AES, and fully embedded audio. According to Jeff Winemiller, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RF Central, "Today's broadcast world is fast paced and on the go. With the RFX-PHT-II, broadcasters receive our high-power digital transmitter technology but in a neat compact design that lends itself well to mobile use." The mobile transmitter provides as many as 16 preset channels that tune in 0.25-MHz increments via a remote control. It offers multiple modes of COFDM modulation, including QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM.
