Supplier unveils new class AB PA for fixed-point WiMAX applications Apr 14, 2005 11:51 AM
Anadigics Inc. has received production orders for its indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) based 3.5 GHz class AB power amplifiers (PAs) for fixed-point worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) applications. It is also developing a complete portfolio of high-linearity, high-efficiency WiMAX power amplifiers that support next-generation 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz 802.16e mobile applications. The IEEE 802.16-2004 WiMAX wireless technology standard provides high-throughput over long distance with connectivity at speeds of up to 75 Mbps. WiMAX technology is suited for wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN) applications including "last-mile" broadband connections, hotspot, and cellular backhaul. The IEEE 802.16e WiMAX wireless technology standard provides a framework for broadband wireless mobility for use in applications such as notebook computers. "Our class AB WiMAX power amplifiers provide superior efficiency compared with class A power amplifiers and offer the industry's best level of linearity to customers. The selection of Anadigics AWM6430 by leading WiMAX manufacturers validates the performance advantages offered by our products," said said Ron Michels, vice president of Broadband Products at Anadigics. Anadigics' highly integrated 4.5 mm x 4.5 mm AWM6430 WiMAX PA module provides an integrated step attenuator and output power detector, minimizing external component count, PCB space requirements, and development costs for new designs. This PA module exhibits excellent linearity with an error vector magnitude (EVM) of less than 2.5% at 24 dBm. The PA module offers fully matched RF ports and can operate from either a single 5V or 6V power supply. The WiMAX PA is fully compatible with IEEE 802.16-2004 and ETSI EN301-021 standards and complies with the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.
