Oct 15, 2008 1:33 PM

Jacket Micro Devices announced that it has been awarded patent No. 7,439,840 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for embedded multilayer inductors. The patent, "Methods and Apparatus for High-Performing Multi-Layer Inductors," is the firm's seventh patented to organic embedded component design and technology. It relates to a novel method of fabricating multilayer inductors using the company's Multi-Layer Organic (MLO™) and Low Temperature Laminated Organic (LTLO™) processes. The patent covers the use of high quality-factor (Q) inductors in integrated circuits (ICs), printed circuit boards (PCBs), and standalone organic components. The firm has demonstrated inductor Qs of over 150 at 2 GHz using this technique.
