Vulnerability management solution protects enterprises from wireless threats May 25, 2006 10:05 AM
Wireless security expert Network Chemistry Inc. has developed RFprotect Scanner, a wired-side vulnerability management solution that detects rogue wireless devices and automatically shields the network from such devices. RFprotect Scanner cost-effectively secures organizations from wireless threats to ensure network and data protection and compliance with industry or government regulations. The powerful, network-based appliance is suitable for enforcing corporate “no wireless” policies and can be deployed in conjunction with RFprotect Distributed in environments with a wireless infrastructure. RFprotect Scanner resides on the customer premises and includes the Collaborative Device Classification database of devices that threaten enterprise networks and data, and it can be configured to automatically shield the network from rogue devices. The easy-to-use solution enables complete network protection for a low total cost of ownership. The product offers detailed, custom control over scanning, threat prioritization and alerts as well as integration with all leading security information management systems. Today, companies face a major challenge trying to track and identify all potential rogue wireless devices across their entire network infrastructure. To address this challenge, Network Chemistry is immediately making an open-source scanning agent available to help organizations gain visibility into threatening devices connected to their networks. RogueScanner is available now for use at no charge by organizations looking for an open-source tool focused on device identification and rogue detection. RogueScanner works by scanning the network and gathering evidence about the devices it discovers. That data are then compared against information in the Collaborative Device Classification database to identify the type and model of discovered devices. By leveraging input from RogueScanner and the heterogeneous networks it scans, Network Chemistry is building the world's largest Collaborative Device Classification system. Network Chemistry anonymously stores all data collected in the database and makes a copy of the device database available to customers of RFprotect Scanner. RFprotect Scanner appliances receive updated device classification rules and identifications via a subscription service to ensure the system is up to date, thereby enabling the most accurate identification and remediation of rogue wireless devices. "As enterprises and government organizations grapple with whether to leverage emerging mobile and wireless technologies, protecting all of the corporate assets remains the greatest concern facing IT and security personnel today," said Brian de Haaff, vice president product management and marketing. "For those organizations that have decided to implement a 'no wireless' policy or those that are cautiously rolling out wireless infrastructure, RFprotect Scanner provides a no-hassle solution to find and remediate all rogue wireless access points and peers that are connected to an organization's network." RFprotect Scanner extends Network Chemistry's portfolio of patent-pending technology and family of products that secure the mobile enterprise. RFprotect Endpoint protects mobile devices on the road by actively enforcing policy to thwart threats and prohibit risky wireless configurations. RFprotect Mobile is a portable laptop-based analyzer for automating site surveys, security assessments, and incident response. RogueScanner is available now for download at no cost at www.networkchemistry.com. RFprotect Scanner will be available in the third quarter of 2006.
