Newnham Technology and Newnham Research have announced they have changed their name to DisplayLink to better reflect the company’s global identity. DisplayLink’s semiconductor and software technology uses existing PC interfaces such as USB, Ethernet and wireless networks to transfer fully interactive, high-resolution graphics to any computer or HDTV display.

Though studies conducted by Microsoft showed that using multiple monitors resulted in a net productivity increase of up to 30% per year, mainstream users found that connecting multiple displays was complicated and costly, thus limiting adoption. DisplayLink’s network display technology solves these issues. The result is a solution to connect a computer to one or more displays.

The current generation of this technology is fully interactive and supports up to 32-bit, true-color graphics at 1920 x 1200 resolution over standard wired and wireless network interfaces that exist on all desktop and notebook computers. DisplayLink’s current product supports USB 2.0 and is designed to be embedded into laptop docking stations, monitors and digital projectors.

DisplayLink plans to expand on its USB product line with Ethernet and wireless solutions in the coming months. The company’s first customer is Kensington Technology Group, which uses DisplayLink’s USB connectivity technology as the key component in its Notebook Expansion Dock with Video that was introduced in June 2006.
